To tell you the truth, I have never been a fan of the bloody mary. The taste doesn't do anything for me and neither does the mouth-feel. I also strongly deny its supposed hangover-cure benefits, being more of a Gatorade-and-Tylenol man, myself.
That said, on a Sunday morning, I know many of you do dig this particular cocktail. And me? I'm all about my readers. I'd put mints on your pillows at night if I could.
EatDrinkBetter points me to this recipe at Epicurious called "The Produce Stand." The name speaks for itself. They recommend Sagatiba, though are quick to point out that any white cachaça will do.
The Produce Stand
- 3 or 4 cherry tomatoes
- 2 wedges lime
- 2 to 4 fresh basil leaves, plus more for garnish
- 2 1/2 ounces tomato juice
- 2 ounces Sagatiba Pura or another cachaça
- Worcestershire sauce
- Hot sauce
- Salt
Muddle the cherry tomatoes and lime in a shaker. Add the basil, tomato juice, and cachaça. Then season to taste with Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and salt. Add ice. Shake well and serve in a tall glass garnished with basil or cherry tomatoes speared on toothpicks.
