I don't know if you know this, but $1 from every bottle of Cabana sold this year goes to a good cause: education programs in Brazil's favelas ("slums").
Cabana has inked a partnership with Developing Minds Foundation, whereby the proceeds from the purchase of a bottle of Cabana are earmarked for this cause.
I asked Cabana founder Matti Anttila about how this program has been received:
Across the board -- bartenders, accounts, well-known mixologists, etc. -- all wanting to support the initiative and some accounts already wanting to feature cocktails this year with proceeds going to the foundation and incorporating into events. We'll be working closely with all our partners this year to ensure that the benefit to the foundation and favela projects goes beyond just the money donated per bottle sold of Cabana.
As I said around the time I started this blog, the attention on cachaça, in particular, and Brazil, in general, will only increase. And that was before Brazil won the opportunity to host the 2016 Olympics.
I'm looking forward to more from Cabana and others in this regard.
