In addition to traditional rum cocktails such as rum and cola, and the mojito, the brand will promote the caipirinha, a traditional Brazilian drink made with cachaça.
Is Seagram's Brazilian Rum, in fact, cachaça? I don't know, but cachaça probably can be classified as rum under U.S. law.
The suggested retail price is $11.99 for a 750 ml bottle.
- Is this actually a "cachaça", as we've come to understand the term? (My strong sense is "no".)
- If so, is it evidence that marketers may be giving up on marketing "cachaça" as its own category, by calling it "Brazilian Rum?"
UPDATE: Seagram's got back to me.
